Mary Lou Johnson: Introduction to Italic Calligraphy Demonstration                                                                 Saturday July 22nd, 1:30-2:30pm                                         Fee: FREE!

Mary Lou Johnson will letter free name tags for book marks using a broad edge pen with several different inks as well as water colors. She will also demo Pilot Parallel pens with color blending. Pen patterns with the broad edged pen (Speedball Nibs and Pilot Parallel pens will demonstrated.)

Larry Le  Brane: Drawing Foundation Series "The Magic of Line"                                                                               Thursday July 20th, 5-8pm                                                   Fee: $45

Learn the use of line contour with visual devices to achieve the illusion of "deep space" on a 2-dimensional plane. Explore composition placement. Includes individual feedback and group critique. These 4 Drawing Foundation mini-classes focus on specific fundamental skills. Take only 1 or all classes. For ALL skill levels, very beginning to practicing painters & artists.

Lorri Trogdon: Acrylic Workshop "Table Talk"   Saturday July 15th, 12-3:30                                                   Fee: $60

Join me for a wonderful painting experience. Loosen up! Explore painting a beautiful and colorful arrangement of flowers, basket and pottery containers. I use Golden liquid acrylics for a loose watercolor look, laying in color and objects for the initial painting. I then bring it up a level with oil paint for impact if needed. Supplies: Golden Liquid Acrylics (available at Art Central), Canvas 16x20, brushes, paper towels, drawing pencil, mixing palette for your paint (Masterson paint palette available at Art Central), small easel, water container.

"Anything is possible, one stroke at a time" Join Certified Zentangle Teacher, Debbie Gedayloo, for an exploration of self-awareness and quieting of the mind through this fascinating method of breath and art. Anyone who can write their name can utilize this portable, accessible medium. The Zentangle method is not just an art form; it is a practice of self-discovery. Students will be introduced to the basics of the method, meditation and the creation of several tiles. The only requirement for participation is a willingness to try something new and to experience one's self. Newcomers to the Zentangle method, as well as those who have experience, are welcome.

David Limrite: "Pushing Charcoal" Mixed Media Drawing, Process, and The Artist                                       Sun. June 11th, 1-3pm                                                               Fee: FREE Demonstration! 

Join David as he creates an original, mixed media drawing, discusses his techniques and materials, and talks about the artist's process. David will talk his way through the drawing so you can hear HIS thought process and decision making. He will also give you his take on such topics as: setting goals, choosing, guess and correct, process not product, fear and self-doubt, getting stuck by staying stuck, momentum, and finding the courage to commit and complete. There will be plenty of time for Q & A, so bring you questions. This promises to be fun, entertaining and enlightening. People say that the book is going out. But for artists and writers it will always be important for practicing and keeping their ideas. Learn how to make a small sketchbook or journal starting with the pages. Materials list on hand at Art Central. Join Artist, Hilda Vandergriff, for a fun watercolor lesson. You will learn about values, layering, glazing and background. You will receive a lesson handout and follow along the demo step by step. This lesson is for all levels, teens, moms, dads open to anyone who wants to learn watercolor techniques. You will go home with a beautiful seahorse painting.

Embrace this ancient art form to calm and center your mind. Learn how to create mandalas, using symmetrical patterning as a form of meditation. We will begin with a guided meditation and set a personal intention for our practice. All levels are welcome, no experience needed. 


Judy Gittelsohn: Golden Acrylic Painting Advanced Workshop                                                                             Saturday April 29th, 10 AM- 4 PM                                       Fee: $125

Participants will explore a range of Golden products and we will paint all day!  The day will be divided into three parts:  1) Using and understanding gels to build texture and create interesting surfaces.  2) Layering and blending to develop intense, rich and surprising colors.  3) Applying Golden Glazing medium for a final glaze.  Artists will experience drizzle, drip, and grit.  Examples of mediums to be used:  clear tar gel, self leveling gel, coarse molding paste, fiber paste, glass bead gel and more. With this hands-on experience to delight or inspire, the participants will work intensely on creating an artwork incorporating these techniques and materials.  The paints will be Golden Heavy Body, Golden Fluid and Golden High Flow.  I will offer prompts and suggestions on materials and concepts during the day. All levels are welcome!  All materials except canvas provided.  Please bring a canvas / purchase one from Art Central. You are welcome to bring additional brushes, although some will be available for your use.

Jonathan Gaetke: Introduction to Oils for Adults (Painting the Grisaille)                                                     January 7th, 14th, 21st, and 28th, 1-3:30 PM                   Fee: $120 for 4 Classes

This class is geared towards adult students. Artist Jonathan Gaetke believes painting is a skill anyone can learn. Working from direct observation, students will be introduced to basic oil painting skills while learning the grisaille method. Emphasis will be placed on representational painting elements such as drawing, values, edges and composition. Demonstration, exercises and individual instruction at your easel in a fun and supportive environment will provide a solid foundation to create believable works of art in oil. Class size is limited to no more than 10 students.

Have you ever wanted to learn how to paint using Chinese Brush Painting techniques? Join artist Hilda Vandergriff, for a fun learning experience. You will be learning century old techniques of the orient. Simple brush strokes you can use for fish, lotus leaves, bamboo, calligraphy, and backgrounds. You will receive a lesson handout and follow along the demo step by step.
